The Weekly Messenge Devoted to the Interests of the Student Body, Washington State Normal School VOL. XXII BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON, FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1923 NO. 23 IRISH WOES. DEBATERS RETURN WITH BOARD OF CONTROL TO "Bring home the Cup," said Belling-ham Normal to her debaters "We'll do our best," said the teams. They kept their promise, and their best proved just a little better than anything Cheney or Ellensburg had to offer; with the result that, for the next year at least, the Guy S. Allison Cup will hold a secure and honored place in Belling-ham's halls. A large and enthusiastic gathering of students turned out to hear the debate, on the evening of March first, between the negative team from Ellensburg and the affirmative team of Bellingham, in the school auditorium here. The speakers from Ellensburg were Miss Ellen Lowe, Mr.. Channing and Mr. Gillen. The Bellingham- team was composed of Miss Mildred Anderson, Miss Christina Peterson and Mr. Lewis Arnojd. The visiting (Continued oh Page Two) The Board of Control, comprised of Helen Goke, Helen Hightdwer, Albertina Pearson, Oliver Ingersoll and Leland Rankin, student representatives, together with Miss Keeler and Mr. Kolstad, faculty representatives, are having a six-oclock banquet this evening, at the Leopold Hotel. Mr. Archie Thomas, former president of the Board, has also been invited to participate in the affair. Following the banquet, members of the party will go in a body to the St. Patrick's Mixer. • B. S. N, k-> NOTICE. Because of so much illness last quarter, the Art Department will extend the time limit for entries On the "Klipsuh" cbver designs another week. PRES. WALDO RETURNS 1ST President Waldo returned to the Normal this week, after completing a very eventful Eastern trip. His itinerary included Cleveland, (Kalamazoo arid Chicago. While at Cleveland he attended the meetings of two normal organizations, namely, the Association of Normal School Presidents, and the Association of Teachers' Colleges. The principal thing dbne at these two meetings was to cbmbine the two organizations into an American Association 6f Teachers' Colleges, which will permit greater concentration of effort and more unified accomplishments. Follbwirig these meetings, a. meeting of the Department of Superintendance of the National Education Association was held. (Continued on Page Two) PLANS CHIPLETEO EOR RISH MIXER. The best mixer of the year will be held tonight at 7:30. Everybody come and have a real Irish time. The decorations and color schemes for the evening will follow the regular Irish motif of green while Irish humor will color the evening. Program: The program will be held in the Audi - t6rium from 7:30 till 8:30. Mock Assembly: Mr. Arnold—Pres. Waldo. Mr. Mercer—Mr Caskey. Mr Bowmer—Mr. 'Kibbe. Mr. Nelson—Mr. Raliskopf.
