College Begins Big Two-Day Homecoming Celebration .Homecoming got off to an impressive start this morning with Dolores York crowned Queen Sigrid XI. The coronation was preceded by toe royal procession into the auditorium. The main program consisted of students performing for the queen and her court. jNext on the program today will be the pep rally and parade tonight, followed by the freshman class bonfire. The frosh boys will be out today gathering up stuff with which to* build the fire. They will be out in force all during the day to guard the growing pile. After the excitement of the blaze, the house and club skits will be presented in the Siuditorium, beginning at 8 p. m. I&st item for Friday evening will be the mixer, to be held in the junior high gym. Immediately after the skits, the lounge and coffee bar will lie open. ^Saturday will be the big day with the crucial game with the College of Puget Sound Loggers, beginning at 2:00 p. m. The alumni luncheon will be held in Edens hall at 11:00 a. m. Six of the past homecoming queens will be present, along with many other famous and successful alumni. Half-time entertainment will feature the Western Washington band, assisted by four of the county high school bands. They will march and go into several formations, the latter pertaining to the 50th anniversary. ^The>iwo day celebration will be rounded off with the Queen's Ball at the Armory, Saturday night. Dancing will be from 9 until 12. Music wttl be provided by Gordy Downs. One thing to be noted is that dorm girls are getting a 2:00 a, m. late leave! Armistice Saluted Assembly In commemoration of Armistice > day and the celebration of National Education Week an assembly was [held Tuesday morning, November 9, |at lOWriv •\ After a short introduction by Dr. 'Haggard, the assembly was opened •with the national anthem and the ^salute to the flag. The subjects they taught were also listed. Some of the names that were seen on the doors were: Room 220, Ida Baker, music and English; room 219, Washington Wilson, education; room 209, Jane Connell, English and Latin; room 108 Avadana Millet, drawing; registrar's office, Frances Apley and Robert Vaile, science; room 116, Sarah T. Rogers, sixth grade; room 115, Dr. Edward Mathes, history; room 120, John T. Forest, mathematics; and nurse's office, Catherine Montgomery, 1-2-3 grades. Men's locker room was then the fourth and fifth grades and Dr. Kuder's office was the president's office. SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT This issue of the WWCollegian contains a special Golden Anniversary Homecoming rotogravure supplement. Joe King acted as associate editor in charge of the section. Special credit should also go to Shirley Dickenson, Beverly Gordon, and Bruce Hannaford, who helped with many tasks connected with the publication of the supplement. The issue will be mailed out to approximately 1,000 grads. Many WWC Alumni Servinc| In Important U. S. Posts WWC has many honored and distinguished alumni serving in positions of supervising, administration and teaching throughout the different sections of the United States. Among them is Dr. Lillian Spinner Johnston who completed her course at the Bellingham Normal through summer school attendance. Dr. Johnston received her bachelor of arts degree from tiie Colorado State Teachers college at Greeley, and master of arts from the University of Arizona, and in June, 1947, the degree of doctor of education from the University of Southern California. Her present position is director of elementary education and supervisor of the textbook division for the state of Arizona. Mrs. Daisy E. Howard, recently elected county commissioner of sehools, Genesee county, Michigan, completed her three-year course at the Bellingham Normal school in 1926. Past president of the Michigan Education association, she is now president of the rural department and member of the board of directors of the rural division of the National Education association. Gertrude Hankamp finished her two-year course at Bellingham to 1932, the three-year course in 1936. She was appointed executive secretary of the department of supervision and curriculum development, National Education association, on- June 1, 1945. * Alden Blankenship, superinten-tendent of schools at Springfield, Massachusetts, completed the two-^ year course at Bellingham in 1930 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. In 1943, Mr. Blankenship earned his" doctor's degree at Columbia university. Donald Marquis, head of the psychology department at the University of Michigan, attended Bellihg-ham in 1924 and 1925. Mr. Marquis was the former president of the American Psychological association.
