Fay to Reign Over Homecoming Fay Crowned In Assemly; Bonfire Tonight By GAIL GUSTAFSON After some confusion, much work, and many rehearsals, Western's annual Homecoming was set today. "Queen Sigrid XVII" was crowned this morning in the 10 o'clock assembly. From 12:30 on judging of the house and window displays was held. Tonight at 6:45, everyone is urged to be present for the pep rally, parade and bonfire. The fire, traditionally set by the freshmen, will be built across from the Industrial Arts building. Homecoming skits will be presented in the Auditorium-Music building at 8:15 p. m. After the skits a mixer will be held in the gymnasium. COFFEE HOUR SCHEDULED Saturday morning, from 10:30 to 12 noon, a coffee hour is scheduled for students and alumni.. Battersby field will be the scene of the Vikings' Homecoming football game against. EWC. Time for the kick-off is ,2 p. m. An alumni smorgasbord is set for 5 p. m. and will last until 7 o'clock. Scene of the dinner will be Edens hall. Finally, to end the day, the Queen's Homecoming Ball will begin at 9 p. m. Saturday night. Homecoming co-chairmen Kay MacKenzie and Dave Northrup invite everyone—students, faculty and alumni—to get together and make this a successful Homecoming in 1954. "We have fun, music, dancing, dining, prizes, competition, and good entertainment planned for you," say Kay and Dave. Program Listed NOVEMBER 5, FRIDAY: Coronation Assembly—10 a. m., Auditorium. Eastern vs. Western football game, 2:00 p. m., Battersby field. Smorgasbord at Edens hall—5:00- 7:00 p. m. Queen's Homecoming ball — 9:00 p. m. - 1 a. m., Armory. Card Section Set Two hundred and ten Western students will take part in a card section, which will be featured at half-time during the Homecoming game Saturday. The attraction, featured in conjunction with the band, is sponsored by the Pep committee and will be performed on the 50-yard line. The card section will sit in the bleachers between the 45 yard lines. All students and alumni are urged to reserve this area for the _Pep committee. The co-chair-men, Dave-Northrup and Kay MacKenzie, the many committee members and faculty consultants have worked harmoniously and diligently for several weeks,, with one aim in view—a series of events you will enjoy. In view of what has been done, it certainly is easy to write a word of welcome to you through the columns of the Collegian. Queen Sigrid XVII, Betty Pay and her court, Nancy Lange, Kathy Barbas, Charlotte Rolie, and Beverly Bergum add a graciousness to the entire Homecoming. We congratulate these young ladies upon being chosen for these honors by the students and we congratulate the students upon exercising such good judgment. I am sure you Alumni, when you see and meet the Queen and her court, will approve wholeheartedly. In behalf of the faculty, staff, and student body I welcome you as sincerely as I know to this Homecoming. W. W. Haggard Savage Effigy Burns Tonight; Parade to End With Pep Rally The burning of the "Eastern Sav ages" will take place at 6:30 Friday night. The bonfire will be held across from the Industrial A r ts building and will continue until 7 p. m. Those who wish to get a good view of the activities are advised to arrive not later than 6:15. Formation of the Homecoming parade, which will be led Queen Sigrud XVII and her court, will commence from the side of the IA building at 7 p. m. All classes, houses, or clubs who are entering floats have them at the starting point at 6:00. Everyone is cordially invited to enter a decorated vehicle. There will be men assigned to guide cars to their designated areas. Only the official cars or those participating in the parade will be permitted into College Drive from High street during the festivities. This torchlight parade will proceed from College Drive to High street and continue on to Oak and Garden streets and from there to Holly. At Holly street the parade will be directed to downtown Bell-ingham where a pep rally will be held at the Railroad and Holly intersection. Profile Sales Have Terrific Increase The "Profile," Western's student directory and information booklet is on sale in the Co-op, according to Dell Abelein, the editor. The book will remain there for an indefinite time. Price per copy is 40 cents. Approximately 650 copies, or 72% of the Profiles printed have been sold. Because of an increase in enrollment, 900 copies were published as compared with 800 last year. "I'd like to thank Cox Brothers, Printers, for producing such a nice book and would also like to thank those members of the student body and faculty who purchased a book or complimented me on it," Abelein said. Happiest Girl Is Betty Fay "I must -be at least the happiest girl in the world," exclaimed Betty Fay, Queen Sigrid XVII. "I hope this is the best Homecoming ever." Queen Sigrid has brown hair and brown eyes and stands 5 ft. 7 in. tall. She actively participates in school affairs, belonging to Valkyrie, Kappa Delta Pi, FTA, and Pep committee. An education major, Miss F ay lists her ambition as, "to be a good first grade teacher." Before coming to WWC, Queen Sigrid attended Everett Junior college where she was Homecoming queen in 1951. She attended high school in Bothell. Parents of the queen are Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fay of Edmonds. Queen's Ball Held Tomorrow At the Armory The Queen's ball will be held tomorrow night at the armory with the music of Chuck Cabot and his orchestra. It will be under the sponsorship of Valkyrie, WWC women's club. Tickets for the dance will be on sale in the main hall today and at the dance. Price is $1.50 per couple. Women attending the ball are asked to wear cocktail dresses, heels and hose while the gents are requested to wear suits. Couples will have a chance to have their picture taken and developed on the spot for 50 cents. This will be done by means of a polaroid camera. The couple will be photographed against a background of a bicycle built for two and will stick their heads through holes cut in the scene to get the "Gay Nineties" effect. Decorating %ill be done by members of Valkyrie at the armory all day Saturday. Marilyn Scribner, president of the club, has made a plea for male help on behalf of her "fellow" members. Any man interested in assisting the girls is asked to be at the armory any time after 8 a. m. Saturday. Datelml e..
