BY DERRICK PACHECO The Western Front When the Seattle Seahawks play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL at Ford Field Sunday, the Emerald City will wait with baited breath for the most anticipated Seahawks contest since the 1983 AFC championship game. People around the world will tune their television sets and radios to the Super Bowl and pre-game shows, eager for the most important game in Seahawks history — the team's first Super Bowl appearance. Western seniors Logan Marsh and•., Loren Shane are flying to Detroit Friday morning to attend the Super Bowl.. Marsh, Shane and their friends Western junior Tyler Olsen and former Western student Matthew Regan, are season-ticket holders. After the win against the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship game, the Seahawks held a lottery for season-ticket holders to win rights to tickets to the Super Bowl. At the beginning of fall quarter 2005, a registrar's office employee accidentally included student e-mail addresses with the list of their information to an army recruiter, University Registrar Joseph St. Hilaire said. U.S. Congress passed the Solomon Amendment in 1997, authorizing the military to legally obtain student names, mailing addresses, ages, phone numbers, classes, places of birth, academic degrees and most recent schools, but not their e-mail addresses, St. Hilaire said. see RECRUITS, page 4 AS shakes off hostile election BY PETER JENSEN The Western Front Last spring, the current Associated Students Board of Directors took office after a bitter election hindered by controversy, complaints and confusion. The elected candidate to this year's presidency, Western senior Tony Russo, was disqualified for his campaign's multiple violations of the AS election code. Western senior Shannon Hutchinson won a special election on May 4, 2005, and assumed the presidency, effectively ending one of the most factious AS elections in recent school history. But the election's problems have not followed the seven AS board members into office.
