About this collection

Ten historic photograph albums digitized from the larger archival collection of local historian Galen Biery. These albums document a variety of people, businesses, buildings and landscapes, including the Gamwell family house (Bellingham), Bellingham Plywood Corporation, Pacific American Fisheries operations, B.W. Huntoon photos of Mt. Baker and the Mt. Baker Lodge, and scenic views of the Columbia River.

Thousands of additional Biery and other historic images can be searched and accessed via the separate Center for Pacific Northwest Studies Photo Database. Galen Biery, a longtime employee of Pacific American Fisheries, was one of Bellingham, Washington's best-known local historians. His larger collection of research materials includes subject files, scrapbooks, newspapers, audio and visual materials, maps and photographs spanning the approximate period 1861-1992. These records reflect Biery's fascination with the local history of Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington, as well as his other interests including Alaska, the fishing and salmon canning industries, photography and early radio. A detailed guide to the Galen Biery Papers and Photographs is available online at: http://nwda.orbiscascade.org/ark:/80444/xv09926
