Broadcast To Reveal Coed Princess Students Await Prom, Decorating to Begin r ^ Second Primary Board Election Set For February 23 Primary elections for fourth quarter man or woman and fourth quarter woman will be held again Wednesday, February 23. Voting machines will be used again and each student will have the opportunity to vote for three candidates in each group. Because of an error concerning the candidates the election of Wednesday, February 16, was declared invalid. Candidates for fourth quarter man or woman are: Joel Barber, Charlie Ray Borden, Edith Dangerfield Zona Daverin, Edward Hickenbot-tom, Barbara Hodges, Neil Johnston, Loren Rankin, Catherine Redmond, and Bernard Mcintosh. Fourth quarter woman candidates are: Gertrude Baker, Beverly Burfi-aby, June Carrick, Rosemary De-war, Zona Daverin, Barbara Hodges, Marge Peters, Helen Piatt, Alice Bobbins, Pauline Roser, Charline Webb, and Shirley Harrison. COLLEGIAN Vol. XLVII — No. 19 Western W ashington College, Belfingham, Washington Friday, Feb. 18,1949 Rally Speeds Team On Way "Cooperation Around the College" was the theme of the pep assembly held in the auditorium Friday, February 11. The assembly was opened with the flag salute led by Gus Pagels. Art Runestrand was master-of-ceremonies for the occasion. Pagels also gave a talk on Leonard Hudson, former student at WWC, who is now iii ihe hospital in Portland. Among the features contributing to the main theme of the assembly was a short skit put on by Senior hall and MRH. The skit was based : oh cooperation in the lounge. Taking part in this were: Miriam Anderson, Betty Felton, Frances All-dredge, Marion James, John Hall, Bud Doust, But Minahan, and Joe Robbins. ;c The men's quartet, consisting of Gene Langill, Lloyd Rahm, Fred De- Bruler, and Roland Peterson, gave a performance to demonstrate what can be done by proper cooperation. _ A yell competition was \held among the four classes. Each class was assigned to a certain section -of the auditorium with yell leaders /leading each group in a series of yells to determine which class had t*he most spirit. 'The assembly was concluded with the chorus singing the Alma Mater, | under the direction of "Bernard Re-gier. Norma Stout took the solo part hvthis number. She added that upon return-bi^ rto college after an illness, stu- !||enj^-must report in person to the ^V^^^s office before returning to fe "All students who are in the col- (Vtoge infirmary may have visitors I only on written permission from the nurse's office," concluded nurse Anticipation and excitement is at an all-time high at the culmination of weeks of worry and planning over the fiftieth anniversary Publications Prom, which will become a reality tomorrow night, February 19. Last minute preparations* have been completed and decorating of the gym will begin at 2 o'clock this afternoon. All Collegian and Klipsun staff members with their guests will be out in full force, striving to change the center of athletic ability to a land of the Grecian Golden Era. Dancing and reception is scheduled to commence at 9 p.m. Among those in the receiving line will be Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Haggard; members of the faculty publications committee; Miss Lorraine Powers, dean of women; Cecil Thomas and Pearl Hoffman, co-chairmen of the prom. , The gala affair will be aired over KVOS at 11. Haines Fay, from KVOS will act as master-of-ceremonies, and consequently will read the letter received from Doak Walker, Ail-American football star, proclaiming the reigning prom princess. Vern D. Matthews, last year's editor of the WWCol-legian will be present to crown the photogenic and lovely winner. Matthews is a junior in the School of Journalism at the University of Washington. Following the coronation and the promenade of the candidates there will be an intermission. Punch will be served and dancing will continue until 1 a. m. Mert Perkins' band will furnish the music. Cecil Thomas wishes to remind students to be sure and bring their Asociated Student Body passes along with the necessary prom tickets, and enter the east door. He then went on to say that guests will be asked to enter the gym through the west door. Hard work and cooperation on the part of all committees and committee heads should make this Publications Prom, Western Washington's fiftieth anniversary, remembered. Clockwise from center bottom are the princess candidates for the annual Publications Prom, they are: Neva Mclntyre, Bellingham; Norma Barr, Bellingham; Jessie Isom, Bellingham; Barb Butler, Shelton; Helen Johnson, Omak; Joyce Eide, Bellingham; Joan Baylor, Bellingham; Mary Lou Borchardt, Bellingham; Joyce Meuler, Vancouver; and Pat Wright, Tillamook, Oregon. Their judge, Doak Walker, is in the center REGISTRATION Pre - registration instructions for spring quarter have been released from the registrar's office through Marjorie Kingsley. The schedule is as follows: June and August graduates, February 21 through 25. Junior and seniors, February 28 to March 1. Sophomores, March 2, 3, 4. Freshmen, March 7 thj-ough 11. AWS Is Hostess to High School Girls'Club Leaders; Guests Whirled Through Busy Day of Events Girls club leaders and their advisers from high, schools in six northwest Washington counties were welcomed this morning by the AWS to the annual high school leaders conference. Registration began at 9 o'clock in the AWS room. During registration, refreshments were served in. the home economics department. After signing up, the visitors received tagsin the shape of gold corns with 50th anniversary, 1899-1949, and their name and home town written on them. Ihe AWb members are wearing tags in the shape of-gold money bags. At 10 a. m., a special assembly was presented by the music department, with the girls as guests. The band, the Vocollegians, and ~~ the a cafsella choir all contrib uted selections to the program. A tour of the campus was next on the list with the girls of the Valkyrie club acting as guides. The main building, the Campus school, PE building, the Library, Edens hall, and MRH were the points of interest shown to the visiting leaders. Luncheon is at Edens hall, and will be a no-host affair. Dr. Haggard will be the main speaker, with Miss Lorraine Powers, dean of women, and Gertrude Baker, conference chairman, also saying a few words. Other introductions will be made. Immediately after lunch, the regular discussion groups will be held. These groups are held to introduce to the girls some of the ideas and happenings of ~; college life, and clubs and activities are the four topics under consideration this afternoon. The high school advisers will have a discussion group of their' • own. '.•"•'• At 3 p. m., a tea and' fashion show will" be held in the Blue room at Edens hall to round out the day. ^ Second Primary Board Election Set For February 23
Primary elections for fourth quarter
man or woman and fourth
quarter woman will be held again
Wednesday, February 23. Voting machines
