Waterfront Oral History Project records —
Digital Oral Histories at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies
This digital collection is a selection of oral history transcripts from the Waterfront Oral History Project records at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. In 2006, Western Washington University students in Professor Chris Friday's History 400 class conducted interviews with current and former employees of the Georgia-Pacific Corporation pulp mill in Bellingham, Washington (formerly Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Company).
The oral histories contain information about plant operations and equipment, research projects, technological innovations within the pulping industry, as well as a wide variety of mill operations. Interviewees also describe relations between GP management, its employees, and the union (Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers), as well as relations between the Bellingham mill, the surrounding community, and Western Washington University.
The complete collection of Waterfront Oral History Project records and interviews is housed at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. Please see the Guide to the Waterfront Oral History Project records for more details.
Located in the Goltz-Murray Archives Building at Western Washington University, the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies houses and collects a broad range of archival records documenting the history of the Pacific Northwest region. The Center for Pacific Northwest Studies and the vast majority of its holdings are open to the public for research purposes. For more information, please contact us or visit our website.
